So far, this year hasn’t been our best.We’ve missed so much school and I’ve hardly seen any adults outside of my husband and our pediatrician. We are going on three weeks in a row with someone being sick in this house. Even though the year isn’t off to a great start, this week was off to a great start. How do I explain that? Orange Vanilla French Toast.

Sunday morning I made a big breakfast including this French toast which will now be my homemade brunch go-to. It tastes like a holiday celebration. The citrus gives it a refreshing flavor while the vanilla makes it taste rich and indulgent. Orange Vanilla French Toast is the stuff brunch dreams are made of. Oh, and a bonus for my dairy impaired other blogging half, it’s dairy free!

Orange Vanilla French Toast is a refreshing yet indulgent twist on everyone’s favorite breakfast food. And it’s dairy free!

  • 6-8 slices bread (I like using Brioche or Challah)
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced (Only about 2 T of orange juice is needed)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp powdered sugar, optional
  1. Whisk together the eggs, orange zest and juice, vanilla and cinnamon. 

  2. Dredge each slice of bread into the mixture flipping to ensure both sides are well coated. Over medium heat on a nonstick surface (a griddle if you have one) cook for about 3 minutes on each side until the egg mixture is no longer soggy. 

  3. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup.
