Drunken Fruit Salad

Remember our Blueberry Cake? What we didn’t tell you before is that when you top it with whipped cream and this Drunken Fruit Salad, it will be the best thing you have ever eaten. The blueberry cake is delicious, and the cream and the drunken fruit salad are delicious. But when you have them all together, you enter a whole new realm of taste. A word for this has yet to be invented, but I’m trying out “Scrumtastilicious.” Thoughts?

Seriously though, this Drunken Fruit Salad is enough scrumtastiliciousness on its own. We have been known to serve it as a side dish with dinner, because…well…Grand Marnier makes everything better. But top it with some whipped cream for a light, fun and kind-of-healthy dessert. And, if you’re really looking to knock your own socks off, throw it on top of that blueberry cake.

I must say that we were surprised by this recipe of Granny’s at first. She obviously never served this to us as children. But she did entertain all. the. time. So I’m sure she tried this recipe out on her various groups of friends. The Grand Marnier is very complimentary to the sweet and tart fruit and not very strong. I should also mention that you can use pretty much any combination of seasonal fruit. Granny notes that a delicious combination is peaches, green grapes, pineapple or melon balls and blueberries. I just used what looked best in our grocer’s market. If there is one thing that this little dish has taught me, it is that Grand Marnier is always in season. And now I’m wondering if there are any other dishes in Granny’s Recipe Box that could use a little shot of liqueur…I’ll get back to you on this.

This Drunken Fruit Salad is so delicious on its own, but is also amazing as a dessert with some whipped cream! Or it can be put on top of our Blueberry Cake. You can’t go wrong with this delicious little fruit salad. Unless you are under the age of 21, of course.
